Church development project

Overview

We are seeking to renew the manse and adjoining church spaces so that they better serve our mission. By creating accessible facilities and opening all ground-floor rooms for community use, we can welcome more people into our church family, including those with additional needs. Identifying the best location for the Community Cupboard will mean it can continue its vital work and remain a part of the PBC community. Refurbishing the living accommodation in the manse  will also support ministry and outreach.

These improvements will enable us to offer hospitality, fellowship, and practical support to a wider community, living out our calling to demonstrate love in action and serve our neighbours.

Objectives

  • Bringing our residential accommodation up to a standard that is safe, welcoming, and enabling it to be used to its full potential.

  • Creating additional, flexible space for our children’s groups and a dedicated crèche area, so our youngest members are nurtured, valued, and well cared for.

  • Improving our toilet facilities, including providing better access and comfort for those with disabilities and additional needs.

  • Enlarging and upgrading our kitchen facilities to better support the life, vision, and hospitality of the church.

  • Installing a lift to provide step-free access to first-floor rooms, ensuring our building is welcoming and accessible to all.

  • Creating sufficient, well-organised storage to support the many activities and ministries that take place in our church.

  • Enhancing the facilities of the Community Cupboard to meet its growing needs, while ensuring it continues to sit at the heart of our church’s care, outreach, and community life.

Project phases

  1. Initiation and feasibility - this includes gathering the views of all major stakeholders. This began in May 2025.

  2. Pre-construction and design - this includes appointing an architect. This began in January 2026.

  3. Gaining relevant listing and planning permissions.

  4. Tendering with businesses for the construction phase

  5. Construction - this may be in several phases depending on funding and practicalities

  6. Mop up and hand over from the builder

Throughout the project the fundraising stream will be working to generate income for the project including grant applications, running activities and generating donations.

Governance

The Diaconate of Pershore Baptist Church, together with the Church Members, holds responsibility for ensuring that the project is conducted in accordance with Baptist Union guidelines and the church’s constitution. They will oversee decision-making, approvals, and budget management, ensuring that all processes are carried out responsibly, accurately documented, and aligned with good governance.
